The Marylhurst School is a proud, progressive PreK through 8th grade school. We are hands-on, immersive, and project-based. Located on 38 wooded acres along the Clackamas River in Oregon City, we inspire our students to be creators, citizens, and explorers in the classroom and the world.

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate PreK-8th grade Spanish and Enrichment teacher to join our incredible community at The Marylhurst School for fall of 2024. The ideal candidate will be fluent in Spanish, have a deep understanding of progressive education and project-based learning, and possess a collaborative, thoughtful, and creative approach to teaching. This full-time position includes teaching PreK through 8th grade Spanish and facilitating an after-school enrichment program. Our school’s approach to language teaching emphasizes oral communication, cultural awareness, and student-centered activities. The chief goal of our program is for students to immerse themselves in the language as a way of gaining confidence in hearing and speaking it. Enjoyment of language and culture and confidence in one’s speaking ability are the main emphases of the program. We seek a Spanish teacher who is willing to embrace this approach to language teaching and who is willing to collaborate with the rest of the school to enhance the curriculum.

This position also includes enrichment responsibility. The Enrichment Teacher implements programs and activities for students enrolled in our after school program. They conduct classes, workshops, demonstrations and provide instruction to students on topics and skills such as cooking, art, photography, hiking, and physical fitness for self-improvement and/or fun. It is an excellent opportunity to tap into your passions and interests to design exciting and fun projects with children.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Spanish language and culture to students in PreK-8th grade.
  • Develop and implement engaging and interactive units using progressive education and project-based learning principles.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create integrated and interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student learning and growth.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay updated on best practices in language education.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and the school community through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide after-school enrichment supervision and support for students.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent  in Spanish, both spoken and written.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Spanish, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years of experience teaching Spanish at the PreK-8th grade level preferred.
  • Knowledge of progressive education and project-based learning methodologies.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
