Green Acres School is seeking a full-time Lower School Science teacher (Pre-K-4) to join our dynamic staff community for the 2024–2025 school year.  We believe deeply in a hands-on approach to learning, and we engage students in the study of science through an exploration of the real world around them.  Kids are on their feet, working in groups, creatively problem-solving, and exercising the skills of active learning. Green Acres has an ongoing focus on environmental stewardship that includes gardening, environmental exploration and study, and our certification as an MAEOE Green School.  The individual in this role reports to the Lower School Head and works closely with lower school teachers, and our educational technology integrationist to build an understanding of interdisciplinary connections.

 

Responsibilities:

Plan, develop and implement an engaging curriculum based on Next Generation Science Standards
Provide instruction using intentionally designed lessons with hands on experiences
Teach on techxplorations (maker) class in middle school
Provide students with academic differentiation, including support and enrichment, as necessary
Exhibit an approach to teaching that encourages deep knowledge and conceptual fluency, using lessons consistent with Green Acres’ progressive philosophy.
Communicate regularly to colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs
Participate in other student duties (ie: recess, lunch or dismissal duties)
Keep up to date with current practices and methods
Complete report card comments
Other reasonable duties as assigned
Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
A background in curricular and pedagogical innovation and classroom teaching experience relevant to this position.
A sincere love of working with children, a passion for science, and a love of teaching.
Curiosity and a growth mindset.
Ability to provide differentiated instruction.
Experience integrating technology into the curriculum in a way that is consistent with progressive practices.
