Job Description: Elementary School Spanish Teacher (Half-time)
The Miquon School is seeking a half time Spanish teacher who is committed to Progressive education. This is a one-year position for the 2025-26 academic year. We are a community that is
diverse along racial, ethnic, economic, and religious lines, and Miquon seeks applicants who represent and broaden that diversity.
The Spanish teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialist teachers to integrate Spanish language and cultures into various aspects of the school day. Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to a Progressive teaching philosophy. A bachelor’s degree and at least three years experience teaching Spanish in a school setting is required. The ideal candidate would be a heritage or near-native Spanish speaker with a master’s degree.
We are looking for a Spanish teacher who will have:
● Experience and ideas on how to design, create, and implement a Spanish language curriculum for approximately 150 children ages 3 – 12 (nursery through sixth grade);
● Substantial experience with elementary/middle grade ages;
● A deep understanding of and demonstrated commitment to Progressive education, pedagogy, and values, as well as a passion for learning;
● The ability to use their own individual talents and passions to inform the program;
● A continuing desire for professional development and learning;
● The ability to help nurture and develop children’s individual and healthy identities;
● A demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice;
● The capacity to understand, appreciate, and reflect the diversity of Miquon’s families;
● High energy, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude;
● The ability to partner with classroom and specialist teacher colleagues;
● Interest in offering mini-courses (electives); and
● Willingness to fulfill all other staff responsibilities that may occur outside the school day, including attending staff meetings, writing reports, and participating in community activities.
About Miquon
The Miquon School is an independent, coeducational elementary school using innovative, child-centered teaching practices grounded in our 90-year tradition of Progressive education. Our student body is composed of approximately 150 children in nursery through sixth grade. Classes are mixed-age groups, typically 18-22 children in size, and led by two teachers. Time spent outside on our 10-acre campus—including wooded areas, fields, and a creek—is an integral part of every child’s Miquon experience.
