Website The River School

Where Small Steps Become Giant Leaps

The River School educates children from 18 months through 5th grade and is known nationally for its inclusion program for children with hearing loss–15% of our students have a hearing loss.

The River School uses a unique co-teaching model–it pairs a master’s level educator and a speech-language pathologist (SLP) full time in every classroom. River also trains graduate students from across the country. A typical classroom teaching team includes the educator and SLP and a graduate student in either education or speech-language pathology. Class sizes are small allowing for strong teacher-student relationships and individualized teaching and learning.

If you welcome collaboration and are interested in teaming with a speech-language pathologist to optimize student language, academic and social development this placement may be for you.

We require all classroom educators to hold a master’s degree in early childhood, elementary or special education.

The River School model is progressive so expect to be planning classroom themes and teaching through project-based learning. There are no desks at River. Only spaces for collaboration and experimentation.
