Overview:
Located in Pasadena, CA, Walden School is a small, independent Pre-K to 6th-grade school with over a 50-year of commitment to innovative, progressive practice, social-emotional learning, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The school has a thriving waitlist, an expert and committed faculty and staff, innovative outdoor education, and stellar matriculation to the area’s best middle schools. Walden prioritizes inquiry-based and experiential learning, strongly emphasizing social justice and environmental education. This position will begin in late August 2024.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with grade-level colleagues to plan, implement, and assess interdisciplinary, experiential curricula in language arts, math, and social studies.
Foster a community of learners focused on social-emotional development, critical thinking, and self-advocacy.
Engage with families to support understanding of the school’s philosophy and developmental practices.
Mentor and collaborate with a full-time Associate Teacher.
Maintain ongoing professional development and contribute to curriculum refinement aligned with Walden’s mission.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues in various formats, ensuring a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a progressive educational setting.
Solid understanding of academic, social, and emotional development for older elementary students.
Experience with Responsive Classroom, Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop, and experiential learning methods.
Strong commitment to social justice, environmental education, and anti-bias education.
Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using educational technology and other related platforms.
