Middle School Technology Teacher

The Position

The Orchard School is seeking an innovative, dynamic, collaborative teacher with a strong background in technology and education who can enhance the current program. The successful candidate will teach technology classes to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The classes use a range of tools and programs including, but not limited to, 3d printers, Little Bits, Makey-makey, Arduino, Lego Robots, and Scratch. Other duties and responsibilities include being an advisor, teaching or co-teaching a winter intensive class, and assisting in chaperoning an overnight trip.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in technology, education, or related field
  • Experience and enthusiasm for working with middle school students
    Understanding of multiple learning styles and differentiated instruction
  • Experience with technology in an educational setting
  • Ability to design and balance hands-on labs, experiential learning activities that advance the targeted learning outcomes
  • Computer programming experience preferred
  • Ability to write narrative assessments
  • Understanding of developmental stages of middle schoolers
  • A commitment to progressive education
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and improve professionally
  • Ability to collaborate and work with a team
  • Ability to work with parents in a thoughtful and proactive manner
  • Willingness to engage in all aspects of the Orchard community
