Under the supervision of the Head of School, Redwood’s Spanish Teacher is responsible for teaching Spanish language to students in grades K-8.

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for providing an effective learning environment through planning, organizing, developing, and assessing a comprehensive instructional Spanish program for children in kindergarten through Eighth Grade. The Spanish Teacher is knowledgeable about the cognitive and social-emotional development of children in these age groups and possesses a firm understanding of and the ability to teach Spanish language and culture.  Further, it is expected the Spanish teacher will work with the remainder of the school staff, faculty, and community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic Spanish language program
  • Uses a variety of methods, materials, and techniques to teach Spanish language and culture
  • Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities
  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences
  • Assesses students’ knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, families and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations and goals
  • Actively seeks opportunities for professional development
  • Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner
  • Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned by the Head of School

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, unless native speaker; Master’s degree in education preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching Spanish, preferably in an independent school
  • Fluency and expertise in conversational and written Spanish.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
  • Strong initiative and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • A warm personality and growth mindset
