Website NCCL School (Newark Center for Creative Learning)

Small Classes. Big Ideas.

NCCL School is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative reading specialist who will be responsible for providing extra reading services for individuals and small groups within our K-4 program. This position is for approximately 8.5 hours per week, during school hours, with flexibility of days.

While this position is specific to the K-4 grades during school hours, we are seeking an individual who would also be interested in offering tutoring services to families of children in the upper school, grades 5-8, before and after school. Tutoring hours would be determined and coordinated between the reading specialist and the families directly. The families would pay for these services.

In its hiring practices, NCCL School deliberately seeks to maximize the diversity of the school (in terms of race, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, abilities/disabilities, age, religion, class, and language). We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We would encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet every one of our qualifications described.

We are looking for someone with:

-Professional Training in teaching students with reading disabilities.
-Desire to work in an engaging progressive school community, and join a supportive staff that discusses curriculum, DEI efforts, and school operations.
-Comfortability talking about identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, or gender in plain, specific terms.
-Outside interests that will enrich our program will be welcomed and encouraged.
-Able to hear, reflect, act on, and learn from feedback re: identity and equity.
-Commitment to continual learning about the historical context for systemic inequity and its present-day implications.

Pay:

– $40-45/hour, 8.5 hours a week.

– Plus potential tutoring hours paid for by families.
