Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative K/1 Lead Teacher who is energized by the creativity, inquisitiveness, and intelligence of children and shares our commitment to progressive education. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that encourages exploration, inquiry, and collaboration among students. This position involves teaching a mixed K/1 class and collaborating with colleagues to integrate project-based learning into the curriculum. It is a full-time position with benefits.


  • Develop and implement project-based curriculum that aligns with our progressive. philosophy and practice and uncovers important skills and conceptual understanding
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture where students feel valued, respected, and supported in their learning journey
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with varying learning styles and abilities
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, group projects, and technology integration, to engage students and enhance learning outcomes
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects and integrate subjects such as science, social studies, and language arts into thematic units
  • Assess student progress through authentic assessments, observations, and student-led presentations, providing timely feedback to students and parents
  • Create a supportive and communicative partnership with parents and guardians, keeping them informed about student progress and classroom activities
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the school’s ongoing growth and improvement initiatives
  • Actively participate in school-wide events, meetings, and committees to support the overall mission and vision of The Marylhurst School


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Experience teaching in a progressive, project-based learning environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of child development, differentiated instruction, collaborative problem solving, and project-based learning
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflection
