Virginia Chance School is seeking Preschool Teachers who reflect the Mission & Vision of the School. Prospective teachers should be team-oriented; educators will work closely with their credentialed co-teacher, teaching team, and the Director of Preschool. Eligible candidates should be able to incorporate a developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses the whole child, adheres to progressive education tenets, and Chance’s nature-based approach to education inside (and outdoors) each day. In addition, candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication and positive interpersonal skills in addition to being well-organized and timely.
Reports to: Director of Preschool
Schedule: M-F, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field -OR-
A Child Development Associate (CDA), is preferred
In some instances, professional experience may be substituted for education
Professional experience working with children between ages 2-4 years old, is required.
Willingness to commit professionally to progressive education tenets, the Developing Capable Young People approach to discipline, nature-based learning, and VCS’s DEIBJ initiatives, is required
Candidates must have reliable, timely transportation and be committed to timeliness
Must be able to work outdoors in non-severe weather conditions with or without reasonable accommodations, including (non-severe) heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
Must be able to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation: climb multiple flights of stairs daily (indoors/outdoors), stand, sit, kneel, or squat for extended periods; lift between 25-30 lbs. for brief periods; walk/hike on uneven terrain for extended periods
