PEN 2017 Workshop Submissions

Are you an educator or student who is committed to DIVERSITY? Have you been wanting to share your ideas about EQUITY? Do you believe it’s important to amplify STUDENT VOICE? We are looking for educators and student presenters like you, who promote diversity, equity and justice in their schools, to present at this year’s conference.

This year’s theme is: Amplify students’ voice, agency, conscience, and intellect to create a more equitable, just, and sustainable world.

Deadline for workshop applications has been extended one week to March13. Notice of approval or decline will be received on or before April 6.

  • Suggest a concise and appealing title for your workshop.
  • Write a short description of your workshop that is no more than 200 words in length. What is your workshop’s main goal? How does the workshop you propose reflect the theme of the conference?
  • There are two options of workshops available. One is 1.5 hours and will take place within the Conference Center. The other is a space-based, 4 hour workshop (see Workshop Venue, below).
  • By the end of this workshop session, participants will...What are 2-3 concrete things you want participants to learn and experience during your workshop? Describe them.
  • What are the skills and/or knowledge that will be addressed in this workshop?
  • Aim to limit lectures to 10 minutes or less. Include detailed descriptions of the activities participants will do. There should be a variety to address different learning styles of adult learners and to keep them engaged. Include ideas for people to take action when they return to their schools and/or organizations.
  • Describe how you will know this workshop’s objectives have been met by the facilitator and the participants. Consider creating a brief assessment participants can complete in 5 minutes.
  • Please list the resources and handouts you will reference with participants during the workshop.
  • List the materials you will need and your participants will need.
