DESCRIPTION:How do educators increase student engagement\, prepare students for the future and develop student agency? Come learn how an inquiry pedagogy and classroom culture of curiosity has the capacity to take student thinking to a higher level\, engage all learners\, and encourage conceptual understanding and connections between skills and knowledge of multiple disciplines.\nAppropriate for preschool\, early elementary\, and elementary school educators. This workshop will explore:\no creating an environment for inquiry\no inquiry models\no integrated learning\no structures to support inquiry\no role of provocations\no assessment to support inquiry\no instructional strategies\no teacher’s role and stance \nHigh Meadows teacher Kerri Irwin has fifteen years of teaching experience in private\, public\, and Montessori environments. Gail Albert has 16 years of classroom experience in Reggio-inspired classrooms.

DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for single-day workshop on\nThursday\, June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\nHigh Meadows School\nJoin us as we explore ways to utilize the outdoors as a natural learning environment for children to encourage exploration\, wonder\, and creativity! Using best practices in nature-based learning\, you will be empowered to create experiences that spark student curiosity\, deepen understanding of the world around them\, and allow for application of academic skills in the outdoors. Participants will:\n• learn about the value and benefits of outdoor education\n• understand how nature functions as a teacher\n• explore sample lessons and design lessons to incorporate into your own learning environment\n• overcome personal and professional obstacles you may encounter when taking learning outdoors \nHMS teachers Rebecca Drage and Shannon Hostetler have a passion for nature-based learning. Rebecca has been a HMS teacher and camp counselor for six years\, working with children ages 5-13. Shannon has 22 years of teaching experience in early childhood education in both public and private schools.
